La pratique du skateboard amène à envisager l'espace urbain comme un terrain d'expression, un territoire à s'approprier pour le réinventer. C'est au travers de cette pratique que le regard d'Irvin Heller s'est forgé, l'amenant au quotidien à penser différemment la ville et les détails qui la constituent. Par ses photographies, il nous invite à jouer son jeu habituel: à considérer les composants qui habitent nos rues comme des entités formelles et matérielles; interroger leurs fonctions réelles et potentielles. Ainsi traités comme sujets et sublimés, ces éléments aux formes plus ou moins familières, issus du mobilier urbain ou de l'architecture française et étrangère, deviennent des sculptures ou des compositions graphiques autonomes. L'inventaire présenté ici met en lumière tout un répertoire d'artéfacts qui « font image » dans la ville et nous incite à ré-enchanter l'ordinaire.
Skateboarding is a way of seeing urban space as a field for expression, a territory to be appropriated and reinvented. It is through skateboarding that Irvin Heller's vision has been forged, leading him to take a different look at the city and its constituent details on a daily basis. Through his photographs, he invites us to play his usual game: to consider the components that inhabit our streets as formal and material entities; to question their actual and potential functions. Treated as subjects and sublimated in this way, these familiar elements shapes, taken from street furniture or French and foreign architecture, become sculptures or autonomous graphic compositions.
